Four major official videos have shaped the public picture of GTA 6 ahead of its November 19, 2026, launch: Trailer 1, Trailer 2, the nearly half-hour presentation "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" and the Launch Trailer from October 15, 2026. This overview collects documented dates, times and runtimes, what Rockstar officially says about each video, and sourced view counts – deliberately without frame-by-frame timestamp analysis.
The four videos at a glance
- Trailer 1: evening of December 4, 2023 (ET; overnight into December 5 in Central Europe), 1:31, first released on YouTube.
- Trailer 2: May 6, 2025, on several platforms at once; captured in-game on a PlayStation 5, according to Rockstar; runtime not confirmed.
- Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look: August 27, 2026, first on Netflix, then on YouTube and rockstargames.com that same evening (ET); roughly 26 to 27 minutes according to press reports.
- Grand Theft Auto VI Launch Trailer: October 15, 2026, released without prior announcement on YouTube and rockstargames.com; about 90 seconds according to press reports.
In addition, according to GamesRadar and PC Games (in German), Rockstar added an animated fly-by video of Vice City to its website in June 2026; per the press, it introduced no new place names. We do not count it among the four major videos.
Trailer 1: an early drop in December 2023
Rockstar first teased the trailer on November 8, 2023, when a statement from Sam Houser promised it for early December (Tom's Guide). The plan was a YouTube premiere on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 9 a.m. ET, which is 3 p.m. CET in Germany (Neowin, PC Games). It never happened that way: Rockstar put the trailer online early, at short notice, on the evening of December 4, Eastern Time. Two dates are in circulation: Rockstar's video page lists December 5, 2023, while at release it was still the evening of December 4 in the US and already the night of December 5 in Central Europe.
Trailer 1 runs 1:31 (as shown on the official video, Rockstar's video page). The game is set in the state of Leonida, which Rockstar's website describes as home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond (paraphrased). Lucia is addressed by name in the trailer; her partner Jason Duval was only named officially with the website update that accompanied Trailer 2. The 2025 launch year communicated at the time is outdated – since November 6, 2025, the official date has been November 19, 2026.
For Trailer 1 we only have figures from press reports; whether Rockstar itself published a 24-hour number is not confirmed (see "What is not confirmed"). According to TechCrunch (December 5, 2023), Trailer 1 broke MrBeast's record for the most YouTube views of a non-music video in 24 hours. Per GosuGamers (December 2023), Guinness World Records listed it as the most-viewed video game reveal on YouTube in 24 hours, at roughly 90.4 million views. By November 2025, PC Games (in German) put it at around 268 to 269 million views, apparently making it the most-viewed trailer on YouTube without paid promotion, just ahead of Avengers: Infinity War (267 million).
Trailer 2: May 2025 and the big website update
Trailer 2 arrived on May 6, 2025, four days after Rockstar announced a delay on May 2. Rockstar posted it on the Newswire as "Grand Theft Auto VI — Watch Trailer 2 Now", and Take-Two issued a press release the same day. Rockstar says Trailer 2 was captured entirely in-game on a PlayStation 5 and is roughly half cutscenes, half gameplay. While Trailer 1 initially appeared only on YouTube, Trailer 2 went live on several platforms at once. Our sources give neither a release time nor a runtime.
At the same time, Rockstar expanded rockstargames.com/VI. The official synopsis sets up the premise: when a supposedly easy job goes wrong, Jason and Lucia get caught up in a criminal conspiracy reaching across Leonida and must depend on each other more than ever. The "Only in Leonida" section introduces six regions – Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park – plus nine named characters across eight profiles: Jason Duval, Lucia Caminos, Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest, the rap duo Real Dimez (Bae-Luxe and Roxy), Raul Bautista and Brian Heder. We summarize the official descriptions in our characters and places sections.
As for reach, Rockstar itself supplied a figure: the studio told The Hollywood Reporter that Trailer 2 passed 475 million views across all platforms within 24 hours and called it "the biggest video launch of all time." That is Rockstar's own figure; we have found no independent verification.
Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look (August 2026)
Rockstar announced "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" on the Newswire on August 6, 2026. It premiered on Netflix on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 3 p.m. ET (noon PT, 8 p.m. BST; 9 p.m. CEST when converted for Germany). After six hours of Netflix exclusivity, it followed at 9 p.m. ET (3 a.m. CEST on August 28) on Rockstar's official YouTube channel and the Extended Look page at rockstargames.com. With the post "An Extended Look — Now Playing" on August 27, Rockstar confirmed the release and restated November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
We found no runtime from Rockstar; on August 27, 2026, Variety reported 27 minutes and VICE 26. According to Kotaku (August 27, 2026), the Extended Look was the game's first longer gameplay presentation, and per Beebom (September 2026), Rockstar does not call it "Trailer 3."
As for content, reports from August 27, 2026, such as GamesRadar's live coverage, describe story scenes with Jason and Lucia, driving, combat, police encounters and open-world activities including kayaking, jet skiing, fishing, races and car meets. According to Dexerto (August 27, 2026), characters Rockstar had already introduced, such as Raul Bautista and Brian Heder, also appear. Whether Rockstar names any further places or characters from the video in written form is not confirmed.
On reach, Netflix data is available: per Variety (September 2026), the Extended Look logged 31.1 million views from August 27 to 30, 2026, and ranked No. 1 on the English-language film charts in 87 of 93 countries; we are not aware of a record claim from Rockstar. According to Gaming Nexus (August 27, 2026), the YouTube version was age-restricted (sign-in with age confirmation); we have not checked whether that still applies and have seen no statement from Rockstar or YouTube.
Launch Trailer (October 15, 2026)
On October 15, 2026, Rockstar released the "Grand Theft Auto VI Launch Trailer" on YouTube and on a dedicated page at rockstargames.com. The video had not been announced in advance: when we checked the Rockstar Newswire the day before, there was no sign of another video.
Rockstar names the music itself on its Launch Trailer page: the trailer features the debut of "Flower in a Hurricane" by Justice featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. On the same page, Rockstar credits Justice as the composers of the game's original score. For more on the soundtrack, see Music & radio.
According to Wccftech and ComicBook (both October 15, 2026), the trailer runs about 90 seconds; we found no runtime from Rockstar. Per Push Square (October 15, 2026), it was captured in-game on a PlayStation 5.
According to Wccftech (October 15, 2026), the Launch Trailer is a montage of new scenes that mainly conveys mood; per the report, it does not introduce new gameplay mechanics. We deliberately do not describe individual scenes – if you want to go into the game unspoiled, you can decide for yourself whether to watch it first.
How to watch the videos here
Our video page embeds the four major official videos from Rockstar's YouTube channel. The player only loads once you click it (click-to-load); until then, the page makes no connection to YouTube, not even for a thumbnail. If an age-restricted video will not play embedded, use the direct YouTube link. The videos contain mature content: the ESRB rates GTA VI "M – Mature 17+," and according to play3.de (in German), Germany's USK had not yet issued a rating as of October 2, 2026. The GTA 6 hub covers the release date and editions, and our knowledge section covers characters and places.
What is not confirmed
- Runtimes: No exact runtime is confirmed for Trailer 2, and we found no figure from Rockstar for the Extended Look or the Launch Trailer.
- Release times and dates: Rockstar has not documented an exact time for Trailer 1's early release, for Trailer 2 or for the Launch Trailer, nor why Rockstar's video page lists December 5 for Trailer 1.
- Origin of the 93 million: Reports also cite 93 million views in 24 hours for Trailer 1; who published that figure first is not documented, so we do not treat it as a measured value.
- Current view counts: We found no reliable October 2026 numbers for any of the videos.
- PS5 capture of the Extended Look: Some press reports name the PS5 as the capture platform; we have not checked against the original whether that comes from Rockstar or Netflix.
- New names from the Extended Look: Press coverage mentions further character and place names; their spelling and roles are not officially confirmed.
- PS5 note in the Launch Trailer: We only know about the PS5 capture from press reports dated October 15, 2026; we have not yet verified it against the video itself.
- Further videos and "Trailer 3": No video after the Launch Trailer has been announced (as of October 15, 2026). Up to October 14, 2026, neither the Rockstar Newswire nor Beebom (September 2026) or Forbes (July 20, 2026) named a date for another trailer, and whether Rockstar itself counts the Launch Trailer as "Trailer 3" is not confirmed. Dates from fan theories are speculation; YouTube uploads titled "Trailer 3" that do not come from Rockstar's official channel are not official.
