Youth protection
Grand Theft Auto is a game for adults. We report on it – and explain here which precautions we take.
This English text is a translation provided for convenience. The German version is the authoritative one, because the operator is based in Germany.
Age rating of the game
According to generally known ratings, the games of the Grand Theft Auto series are rated for adults: USK 18 in Germany, PEGI 18 in large parts of Europe, ESRB “Mature 17+” in North America. These ratings are issued by the respective rating bodies; Leonidatime does not carry out its own assessment and merely reproduces them. For unreleased titles, the rating announced by the publisher or the rating body applies.
Leonidatime is an information service about these games. Our texts report and explain; they do not contain game content for download.
Why the community is open to adults only
In the forum, in comments and in the chat, members discuss the content of a game for adults. Therefore only people aged 18 or over can become members. An age confirmation is mandatory when registering (self-declaration); we store the time and the version of the rules accepted in the account. If we learn that a member is younger, we delete the account.
We do not verify identity documents – that would be disproportionate for a fan magazine and would require more data than we want to store. Articles can be read without an account.
Trailers, images and map
- Trailers are embedded only from the publisher's official channel and only after a click (“click to load”). Nothing is loaded and nothing is transmitted to YouTube before the click. GTA trailers may depict violence, drugs and sexuality.
- Images with mature scenes are flagged in our media library and shown only behind a notice, after a click. This also applies to official images from Rockstar Games; the editorial team approves every image individually.
- Interactive map: we currently neither embed nor link a third-party map. Our map page shows only our own illustrations and places confirmed by official material.
Information for parents
If you do not want children or teenagers to access this site, you can use a recognised youth protection program or the parental controls of your operating system, router or browser. Information is available from, among others, jugendschutzprogramm.de ↗ (German), the USK ↗, PEGI ↗ and the ESRB ↗.
An age notice is shown in the footer of every page. Our texts avoid sensational depictions; they describe content factually and put it into context.
Age confirmation (technical mode)
The site has two operating modes for the age notice, which the operator sets via the “AGE_GATE_MODE” setting:
- Notice mode (“notice”): age notice in the footer, on trailers and on images with mature content; age confirmation at registration.
- Confirmation mode (“interstitial”): additionally, an interstitial page on the first visit where you confirm that you are an adult. The confirmation is stored only in your browser (localStorage, key
leonidatime-age-confirmed), not with us.
